Diary of a trip to the UK and Ireland – Continued

Dateline Hetton, near Skipton.

Kings College The presentation in Cambridge was great fun, preceded by a quick walking tour with Rachel Hawley (who, it turns out, I’ve known thrice without understanding she was all the same person!  She was involved in hiring me to write a (mostly) political column in 2006/2007 for Simple Talk, then again in helping me with CodeRush and finally with arranging the Cambridge part of my trip, not least acting as tour-guide.

After a very warm reception at the Cambridge presentation, filled with highly motivated and skilled developers, I drove up to Leeds, where Black Marble played the role of host and benefactor, offering an incredible welcome. They have a remarkable company that I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to work for, and their presentations, offered free as a contribution to the community, attract a large crowd of world-class developers.  The presentation was followed by one of the best dinners I’ve ever had at a truly magnificent inn and today, before departing, yet another Full English breakfast, this one punctuated by the addition of Black Pudding.  (You’ll have to look it up, if you are American and you find out what it is, you may stop reading this diary altogether).

Now it is off to Newcastle Upon Tyne, with, I hope a side trip to Hogwarts.
